• Sekai K. Ward MFA, LMSW

    FOUNDER, THERAPIST &

    CLINICAL SUPERVISOR

Sekai holds a degree in clinical social work from the University of Michigan and a certificate in core supervision from the National Association of Social Workers. Throughout her more than 20-year career, she has worked with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, homeless families, children in foster care, and children living in orphanages in Zimbabwe. She uses evidence-based interventions to help clients enhance self-esteem, decrease and manage symptoms of depression and anxiety, develop coping skills to navigate complex trauma, extricate themselves from abusive relationships, and recover from negative body image. She also works with clients with chronic illnesses, helping them manage the psychological challenges while supporting goal setting and self-care strategies. Sekai believes that empathy, the therapist’s use of self, honesty, and trust are key components of the therapeutic process. As a bi-racial, bi-cultural woman born in Nigeria and raised in between the United States and Zimbabwe, Sekai is passionate about issues of identity, belonging and the concept of home. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Antioch and uses expressive writing as a therapeutic tool to help clients process thoughts and emotions as a way to develop a deeper understanding of themselves. In her spare time Sekai enjoys reading, writing, working on DIY projects and traveling back to Africa every chance she gets.
